"Smart Battery Workshop" is a package of utilities, which are useful in process of notebook battery repair. It uses Philips Standard I2C Parallel Port Adapter that can be assembled in one hour by person with no electronics skills and dose not require any hard-to-find components. Total components cost is around $1. This package consists of three parts: Smart Battery Data Viewer - read-only access to all the data listed in Smart Battery DataSpecification Revision 1.1. through SMBus. Smart Battery Workshop Lite - allows user to reset Smart Battery EEPROM to it's initial values. Smart Battery Workshop Pro - full access to Smart Battery EEPROM (recommended for dvanced users only). SBWorkshop can be run under the following versions of Windows: in98/WinME/Win2000/WinXP. No special requirements for PC hardware. Short description of "Smart Battery Workshop Lite": Allows user to reset the Smart Battery EEPROM to it's initial values except ManufactureDate which will be reset to current system date. All error flags if such will be found will be cleared. So you will have a "brand new" battery after repacking. Electronics skills are also not needed. No editable fields. Just two buttons: "Read" and "Reset". For safety reasons the original memory dump is saved as a BIN file automatically each time the "Read" button is pressed. Currently supported chipsets: BQ20XX/24C01/02 M37516/AK6480A (80AF)/S29L220 (SL220) M37515/AK6480A (80AF)/ S29L220 (SL220) AS355D/S29L394A (SL394) Some COMPAQ batteries based on PIC16C63A and 24C01/02 EEPROM The chipsets listed above cover a grate variety of notebook batteries such as used in IBM ThinkPad, DELL, Toshiba, HP etc.
